Company Story

My name is Douglas Vieselmeyer, and I have owned and operated Sterling Exteriors and its parent company Tile Technology Roofing Company for over 20 years now. Managing a business in today’s economic and social environment takes a commitment few business owners seem willing to make.
When I started what was originally Tile Technology Roofing Company in 1987, I came from corporate America and Ib> was fed up with the lack of customer service and respect for the customer. For this reason I vowed I would not advertise my company for the first five years of business. If after our first five years we were successful simply by providing excellent customer service and what we like to call the “S.P.O.T.” (Sales Promise on Time), then I knew I was supposed to be in business for myself.

Today with our changes you now have a company that you can count on for all your exterior needs. Not only do we continue to deliver excellent customer service for our Roof clients, we also offer the same great service for our Siding, Window and Alternative Energy clients.

Business Practices

There was a time in business when our company’s reputation was everything. In today’s market however, the consumer is often too busy to research the contractor’s track record with the state, check with the Better Business Bureau or call a few references. The consequence is unqualified, scrupulous contractors have become just as busy with new work as those of us who make every effort to provide our customers with outstanding customer service and top rated warranties.

So how do you, a potential customer, discover the difference?

AND

How does a good contractor look compared to a bad contractor?

Let’s face it, we are busier than ever with our kid’s school and sports activities, extended work hours and longer commutes that even the bad contractors have learned to make themselves sound good with empty promises of good workers, quality materials and air-tight schedules.

In my opinion, the difference rests in the heart and motive of the business owner.

My philosophy is first, train up good people to be great employees. You instill in them through example that you never compromise your integrity regardless of the financial impact on the business! Then, you give them the resources to do what they promised the customer by the time they promised the customer it would be done. We call this the “S.P.O.T.” (Sales Promise on Time)

So, now that you know the difference, where do you look to find these qualities?

This is the simple part. Visit our office, visit others offices, visit the office of every contractor you are considering doing business with! The difference will be obvious! It’s kind of like visiting someone’s home; you can tell a lot about a family just by visiting their home.

Look at the investment the owner has made in people, equipment, buildings and even the community! Talk to some of the staff and ask them why they work for this particular employer.

Replacing your roof, having new windows installed or replacing your siding will be one of the top five expenditures of your life.

Do you want to make this decision based upon a cool looking website, a phone book ad or a “dog & pony” show at your kitchen table by a well schooled sales representative? We think not, and although we have a website, advertise in the phone book and have sales representatives that will sit at your kitchen table and discuss your project, we do so with honesty, quality and integrity.
